The Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies has posted a fascinating article about botanist Steve Perlman's daredevil maneuvers to save some of the rarest plants in the world which are endemic to the Hawaiian islands. He and other scientists of the University of Hawaii’s Plant Extinction Prevention Program climb cliff faces and rappel down mountains to hand pollinate the last remaining survivors of once-thriving species, and to collect samples to propagate them in a last-ditch attempt to prevent their extinction.
