Due to the remoteness of the Hawaiian islands, about 1 in 4 marine species are endemic here or found nowhere else in the world! Hawaiian Business Magazine has posted a list of the ten most common endemic species unique to Hawaiʻi. Even novice snorkelers can see them in calm, shallow waters. Note that the list doesn't include our native and endangered Hawaiian monk seal, which you might encounter sleeping on some of our beaches.
