From November to May, humpback whales visit the Hawaiian Islands to nurse their calves in the warm tropical water. Peak whale watching season is January to March, and they can be easily spotted from land on the north shore, breaching and slapping the water. Boat tours can take you closer to the action, but if you are staying in Princeville all you need are binoculars and a view of the ocean to observe their activity.
