Hawaiʻi has some of the most beautiful and memorable golf courses in the world. And the quiet island of Kauaʻi may have the most picturesque courses on the islands — or anywhere else.
Hōkūala – Ocean Course
Winding its way through mango and guava groves to dramatic seaside cliffs, MSN Travel called the Ocean Course one of the world’s twelve most beautiful courses. It’s little wonder that the list of accolades for this Jack Nicklaus Signature track is as long as its string of holes that hug the Pacific. This continuous stretch of oceanfront golf is the longest in all of Hawaiʻi and a certain highlight of every visit.
Makai Golf Course
Princeville Makai Golf Course is truly one of the world's most stunning golf and resort location! Since undergoing an extensive $6 million renovation by Robert Trent Jones Jr. (completed in early 2010) the Makai Course has soared to the top of almost all of golf's respected rankings imaginable. Including being ranked amongst the Top 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses in America, by Golf Digest, within the Top 3 Best Courses You Can Play in Hawaiʻi by GolfWeek and being named to the list of America's "Top 5 Great Golf Settings" in the world by National Geographic Traveler.
Poʻipū Bay Golf Course
This outstanding course is backed by lush emerald mountains and sculpted from a rolling plateau eight stories above the Pacific Ocean. Here, nature and renowned designer Robert Trent Jones Jr. have conspired to create a stunning venue for golfers of all abilities. Play on the same course challenged by even the best of the best professional golfers in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf from 1994 to 2006.
Puakea Golf Course
"Puakea may be the most fun course to play in Hawaiʻi. The course rides up, down and around deep ravines. It has beautiful, pali views on about three-quarters of the course and ocean views for the rest. Each of the holes are distinctly different so you're constantly facing new, interesting challenges." —Robin Nelson, Golf Course Architect
Wailua Golf Course
This municipal golf course was first built as a 9-hole course in the 1930’s, and the second 9 holes were added in 1961. Course designer is Toyo Shirai. Wailua GC hosted 3 USGA Amateur Public Links Championships and is voted by Golf Digest as one of Hawaiʻi’s best 15 golf courses. Also rated #3 course in Hawaiʻi by The Golf Channel.
